Welcome to the 2015/16 school year.

There were many rumors this summer about closing schools and /or reconfiguration. It is difficult to say where these rumors start – LOL. There are no plans for any such changes. If any such changes were indicated we would be having public discussions and gathering input which would take another school year to do. But so far, we have no plans for any changes.

We continue to have many wonderful things happening throughout the School District.

We welcome Ms. Becky Froese as Principal of R.L. Angus Elementary School (RLA); Ms. Shirley Kenney as Principal of G.W. Carlson Elementary School (GWC); Mr. Tyler Abraham as Vice-Principal of Fort Nelson Secondary School (FNSS); Mrs. Lynne MacNeil as District Principal; Mr. Tom Watkins as teacher for gr. 6/7 at RLA; Ms. Pia Virginillio as a Term teacher for gr. 5/6 at RLA, Ms. Kathryn Ney as teacher for gr.3/ 4 at GWC; Ms. Sarah Jane Robinson as a teacher at FNSS teaching Aboriginal Entrepreneurship, PE., and English; Ms. Jesse Berteig as a teacher at FNSS teaching Art, PE, and Health & Careers; and Mr. Eric Gallo-Paskey as a teacher at FNSS teaching PE and Outdoor Survival; and our wonderful returning staff at all our schools, Maintenance Dept. and District Office.
We look forward to continuing to offer our students excellent services in Language Arts; Fine Arts; Mathematics; Sciences; Social Studies; Physical Education; French; Library Skills; Technology;Trades; and Special Education.
We are continuing to provide an excellent Band program to students in grades 5 to 12 under the direction of Mr. David Johnstone who has also taken on the additional position of District Technology Coordinator.

We continue to provide the Martin Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship program in grades11 & 12 at Fort Nelson Secondary School. This is the third time we have provided this course to Aboriginal youth to encourage them to stay in school and learn the basics of running a small business.

In a partnership with the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality, we are able to continue to provide a Life Saving Program which can lead to employment opportunities at our community pool. Our Industrial Education Program provides tickets in First Aide, H2S, Traffic and Highway Flagging, etc. to prepare students for the local workforce. We are also continuing to offer our Cosmetology Program to both FNSS students and adults from our community.

We are looking forward to a busy and productive school year. Welcome Back!

Sincerely,
Diana Samchuck
Superintendent of Schools
