History of Life on Earth
OBSERVATIONS:
We are studying Evolution in our Grade 7 class. We know the earth has had an eventful history. Scientists believe that the birth of the solar system occurred about 4.5 billion years ago, but understanding geological time is really hard….the numbers are just so large. We watched a video called the The Evolution of Life by AsapSCIENCE where 4.5 billion years was compressed in a normal day of 24 hours. We were surprised that with only one minute an seventeen seconds left before midnight humans emerged and that all of recorded history fit within a few seconds. In a 24 hour timeline an individual life lasted barely an instant.
RESEARCH PROJECT CHALLENGE: To create a timeline for the grade 7 classes that would illustrate the History of Life on Earth.
Step One: Decide decide on the scale and location of the timeline.
(we decided that 1 meter = 100 million years)
Step Two: Chose major events throughout time to research and illustrate
Step Three: Mount and label photos on timeline. Include time periods and mass extinctions.
Below are a few photos of our end product.
