Students took part in shark pre-dissection sessions using an internet virtual shark dissection lab, and by participating in an online Quizlet study tool, where the following systems were identified and discussed:
* External Anatomy of the Shark
* Digestive System
* Reproductive System
* Respiratory (Gills)
Further investigation involved using the dissecting microscope to observe the scales on the caudal fin, teeth, and the gills. Using FaceTime and working from UBC, Matthew helped guide students through their shark dissection, and challenged them, with each cut, to relate what they observed to terminology and functions discussed during previous classes. Using iPads, students documented their dissection, comparing their specimen to generic, labelled diagrams. Students produced a slideshow of their shark dissection.
