Fingerprint Patterns and Characteristics<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDKzz4in7Xg> Crime Scene Investigator, Rebecca Hooks, explains the different fingerprint patterns.
During the fingerprinting sessions we learned about the fundamental principles behind the science of using fingerprints for identification. We took a fingerprint of our forefinger or thumb by simply using a pencil and a piece of scotch tape. By taking a photo of our prepared fingerprint, we discovered that we could use an iPad to enlarge it. Very quickly we were able to identify the basic ridge patterns: “arch”, “loop” and “whorl” of our fingerprints. Next we learned more about the study of ridgeology and tried to find other ridge characteristics in our fingerprints.
TAKING OUR OWN FINGERPRINTS ( OUR RIGHT THUMB / FOREFINGER ) –
Polar showed us how to do this. All we needed was a pencil and some scotch tape.
